Our 3-part mission:

We have a "boots on the ground" approach to ministry.  As we see a need, we gather the resources to get that need met.  Our practical approach comes from a spiritual longing to restore hope -- to comfort others in the way we've been comforted ourselves.  Here's how.

1.  Speak light into darkness.

The light of God's Word comes first.  We all have dark places that need exposure to the truth of His grace.

So Comfort Ministries began a mentoring program for young men.  Our Life Skills Training Center gave each participant a 5-part Life Purpose Statement and a dozen Kingdom Principles to give focus and accountability.

Currently, our outreach is primarily through the preaching ministry and retreat center of founder Jim Draper.  He can share with your group the Life Purpose and Kingdom Principles, or preach on a topic you choose.  Learn more about his talks here.

2.  Bring order out of chaos.

Our founder Jim Draper is the former managing member of JEC Devlopment, the company he started for his children with his oldest son..  So the vision for Comfort Ministries has always been to take natural building principles and merge them with the principles of the Bible.  That's what our Savior, the carpenter, did with his disciples.  He used the building materials of their individual gifts and talents to build their character.

In the same way, as part of our Kingdom Principles Training, each student was led by the example of his mentor through worship, discipleship, fellowship, nature, which equips one for their calling, or mission. Each student learned and applied these skills on a daily basis at church, on a farm and at the mission store.  These daily disciplines were designed to pull order out of internal chaos.  Likewise, through Goshen Falls Retreat Center, provided meals and a schedule of worship, discipleship, fellowship, and nature allow for balancing the every day chaos.

Sometimes the chaos is external.  Men we worked with had just been released from prison and needed help making the transition into daily life.  We helped them get their driver's license, a job, or whatever they needed, along with the spiritual life skills we taught. Likewise, much of the time people struggle internally, asking the questions, "Who am I?," "Where am I going?" "What's life all about?" The purpose of the retreat center is to help, through sound teaching of Kingdom Principles, to answer these questions and provide a time to restore balance and focus to Life Purpose.

3.  Create places of refuge.

Picture
With our building experience, it seemed natural to offer physical places of refuge for those in need.  We had a couple of homes that we offered for a year to people who needed to get back on their feet.  We also helped a local church get started by getting the building donated by its owner, and getting needed repairs made by our own crew.  The building had been a pool hall and a rough place.  It is now a spiritual place of refuge for Rivers of Mercy Church.  Our mission and vision are still the same: to bring balance and restoration to individuals through the teaching of Kingdom Principles, which inspires a renewed mindset, which results in seeking the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer: "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
